Work provider-independently
Coordinate Claude, Codex and models: a safer workflow
Claude, Codex, ChatGPT and other models are not interchangeable teammates. A dependable workflow assigns a task by context, risk, required repository access, review and available limits — and records the decision. AI Orchestrator remains provider-independent and does not claim partnerships with the named providers.
The practical problem
Starting several coding agents in separate windows is not coordination. Without scoped file areas, order and an owner, agents can change the same area, work from stale context or pass on a defect that nobody owns as a review task.
Operating model
Routing several coding agents
- 01Understand task and risk
- 02Set context, repository and protected areas
- 03Choose the fitting role
- 04Select tool or model by policy
- 05Check limit or availability
- 06Execute locally and record result
- 07Independent QA gate
- 08Owner decides on integration
A model name is not approval. Routing is a recorded decision about task, boundaries and verification.
A useful split of roles
One model may support strategy, research or scope critique; a coding agent may handle a narrowly scoped repository change; an independent role may accept the result. These are workflow suggestions, not a claim that one provider is always better.
- One clear task per owner instead of competing sessions
- Worktrees or branches for independently parallel changes
- No shared edits to the same files without an integration plan
- Tests, diff and browser smoke as result evidence
Limits, fallback and pause
Model limits, provider availability and missing context are normal operating conditions. The safe fallback is not always another model: a task can pause, be narrowed or return to an owner. The product foundation supports routing and stop rules; automated provider failover is not presented as shipped.
What this does not promise
It does not promise account control, official integrations or perfect autonomous software development. It explains how to treat provider and model choice in a reviewable local workflow.
